Anniversary

Reinvigorating the Gandhian Principles of Nonviolence

During 2018-19, in honor of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary year, we are committed to host our Summit across various parts of the world and bring together global leaders and change makers to reinvigorate the message of nonviolence and design solutions to promote peace in our world.

The rise of violence and extremism is one of the biggest challenges facing our global society. Today, an act of violence can happen anywhere, anytime and includes suicides, domestic abuse, bullying in schools, communal riots, war, mass shootings and global terrorism. These acts of violence stem from the inability to transcend differences of gender, sexual preference, race, ideology, ethnicity, nationality.

Despite huge investments on violence reduction programs, law enforcement and military spending, violence seems to be on the rise. It is imperative that global leaders look for new ways to transform the conditions that promote violence and extremism.

As human beings we all have the power to choose the possibility of hope, love, action and progress. Across every age, race, religion and region, we are united by common human values and aspirations that are much greater than our differences.

The principles of nonviolence ('Ahimsa') that were used to transform society by Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Mandela and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. seem even more relevant today to bring social justice, peace and harmony in the world. Their work inspires us to choose love over fear and hatred.

Our approach to counter violence and extremism is based on empowering individuals and communities to promote nonviolence and compassion.
